Interesting and very different take on the zombie apocalypse. I wanted a bit more but overall it was good!

This starts with Rico at a bar, drinking his sorrows away. It is interesting how much his perspective changes over the course of the story. And, this is exactly why I love zombie and apocalypse books. People either become total jerks or they really have a reason to love life and take care of one another. Both types of people are found here.

The main twist about the zombies was also interesting. It was not really talked about too much though. If people know I am curious how much they would want to find out more. The first wave didn’t cause the apocalypse but the second really put a dent into the population. Zombies start to be how they are in movies and people are dropping like flies!

As a gore lover, there really isn’t that much gore in this, either. That is quite surprising since a few people die by being eaten. Zombies have flesh in their teeth but this does not go over board with the blood.

The narration was very good and kept me riveted. Kevin Tracey does a great job of keeping the intensity up without missing a beat! He did a great job with the few accents, especially Q’s, and I was able to easily differentiate the characters.

There are quite a few special people in this one but the main two are Rico and Angie. These two go through some stuff together. One thing that I love is that there is a real feel for how a cop must feel around civilians. I would not be surprised if the authors were or knew cops. I really liked Rico and who he was and what he stood for and the fact that he knew he did not always have all the answers. Sometimes he did not have any of the answers.

Overall the plot was good but was missing something. I think I really wanted to sink my teeth (pardon the pun) into the plot but never felt like I could. I liked the characters but wanted a little more. Overall though the story and production was well done and I did enjoy it. The end! I’m still not sure how I feel about the ending. It was different and unexpected. Not always a good thing but it worked here.
