The main character was very unlikeable ans the traces of pedophilia were very off putting.

This feels very much like a T. C. Boyle novel! The characters, setting, writing, plot -- all of them feel very characteristic of the author. It's enjoyable if you, like I, are a Boyle fan, but at the same time I couldn't help but wish he'd stretched himself a little more. If you're familiar with Boyle, there are no surprises here.

I like books that don't need to rely on a lot of plot or artificial elements of suspense to keep the reader interested.
The characters and the description of their interactions in the context of the "investigation" of the possibilities of LSD made for pretty good reading.

Very interesting fictional take on the beginnings of Tim Leary's LSD crusade. Very eye opening.

Parts of this book were quite entertaining, but in the end I felt it petered out from lack of larger context. Plus the main character of Fitz, in the tradition of many similar sad sacks portrayed by John Updike and Anne Tyler, was hard to like.
