lots of potential, it's hard to judge it on its own knowing it was meant to be taken as a whole with the other volumes but for now i've enjoyed the set up well enough and shen yuan is a truly great main character, i was happy to follow him

tbh the crumbs laying down the groundwork for the upcoming romance were my least favourite parts, there's different dynamics that intrigued me way more

Read this because my friend said out of all the MXTX books, I'd enjoy this. I did! I really enjoyed the intro. Shen Yuan is a true hater and I respect him for that. The trigger phrase for activating the system was hilarious.

I'm iffy given their age gap and how SQQ is a mentor figure, but I do think LBH's endearment for SQQ is adorable. I could very much relate to SQQ in the beginning with how much he wanted to help LBH as well. There were other things that did set me off such as the way SQQ thought about LBH's future harem partners (example: SQQ thought LBH let 'a future threesome event between the Qin sisters' disappear

because one of them died.

) and the way Liu Mingyuan was described by SQQ as 'beautiful beyond comprehension' while she was just a disciple made me uncomfortable just to name a few.

The part where SQQ had to send LBH off to the Endless Abyss made me very emotional. LBH's expression on the art and the way it was written really hit the nail on the head for me! I think the way SQQ executed it was realistic. However, it was heartbreaking and somewhat frustrating to see how SQQ forgot his former words since you can tell LBH used it as a basis before agreeing to take on the demonic path. Not to mention SQQ knew LBH's demonic heritage. The stab surprised me too.

Overall, it kept me very much engaged. I haven't read in a while so I was surprised to finish this in less than 2 days. I'm looking forward to the 2nd volume!
