"In 1970, a young mother was brutally raped and murdered by a member of the notorious Padgitt family. Local newspaper editor Willie Traynor reported the details of the horrifying crime. The murderer, Danny Padgitt, was tried before a packed courthouse in Clanton, Mississippi, threatening revenge against the jurors if they convict him, but guilty he was found and sentenced to life in prison. In Mississippi in 1970, "life" didn't necessarily mean "life," and nine years later Danny Padgitt gets parole. He returned to Ford County, and the retribution began." (From Amazon)
I liked this one - not so much for the law but for the characters and plot.

I truly enjoyed this book. I think some parts were really slow but it all comes together at the end. I feel so many things about that ending because I thought it was the sister killing everyone but oh well. Still very good

This is the second book of John Grisham that I am reading and it was definitely fast paced. For me, the ending was predictable but loved the way the story was setup and built.

The Juror
4 Stars
Not Grisham's usual style but a wonderful storyline and excellent characterization nonetheless.
Grisham has captured the essence of the small town and its inhabitants. There were moments where I found myself laughing out loud at the antics despite the serious nature of the plot.

Really glad that I gave John Grisham another shot after ‘The Rooster Bar’.
I really enjoyed this book as I’m a big fan of historical fiction, especially set in the South. ‘The Last Juror’ is a dark, but fun and easy read following a newspaper editor in a small town enveloped in the horror’s of a brutal murder. Has a lot of the small-town gossip vibes that I love to find in books as well.

Graphic: Racism, Rape, Violence, Murder
It has been a long time since I read a Grisham novel. I enjoyed it--a good quick read about a publisher of a small town newspaper and murder in a small town. Captured the essence of Mississippi of the early seventies.
