Memoirs aren’t my favorite, and as a cancer survivor, it was all a little too familiar. Not something I need to relive.

A sad story that made me cry a lot. If you like sad, emotional stories, this might be your book. Overall the writing was good and I appreciate the vulnerable and intimate storytelling of the author. Just too sad for me! It did, however, make me fall in love with Korean food. I loved the connection the author has with her culture.

Amazing book. Lived up to hype (I kept hearing about this book). Incredibly vivid perfect descriptions of dishes, loved all the food references, and comprehensive food appreciation. its also just incredibly sad. And real, funny, and cool. It’s deeply personal and it hurts. It’s a loss it seems she will grieve forever. I hope the author is doing ok and surrounded by love. It seems she found a solid, supportive partner.

This book made me reflect on the mummy I wanna be for my two—year—old as she grows. I hugged her tighter while reading this. I hope she doesn’t have to prematurely confront our deaths (we are older parents). We want her to know love and security.

I want to re—read to pay more attention to the names of the family in Seoul because I lost track of who was who. And I want to eat and study Korean food! this was obviously such a link with her mother and her heritage.

Wow this was so emotional and definitely hit me in my feels. I wasn’t expecting all the depth this book had. I ended up texting my mom halfway through to tell her how much I love her and everyone else should do the same after reading this! Michelle’s story was so heartbreaking and relatable. I didn’t know anything about Michelle before listening to the audiobook and I feel like she bared her soul to us. Normally I find memoirs boring but she kept me captivated the whole time with her life experience, being a mixed woman and of course all the descriptions of the delicious Korean foods. Seriously the book made me hungry. Although I am not Korean, as an asian and white woman I felt kindred to Michelle. A lot of her experiences as a mixed asian girl and woman are things I too experienced. I felt like I could relate to her a lot. I don’t know what else to say about this book besides read it. I would recommend this book over and over. The rawness left me speechless and I wish Michelle all the happiness.
