Absolutely loved this book. I loved the character relationships and all the growth that our beloved characters experienced.
I loved especially how Hulda and Merritt see how much their relationship has made them grow. Both of them turning down marriage proposals because they want to keep growing and changing with each other was just chef's kiss.  I also love how much Owein grows in this book. He really has acted as a child these past two books, but in this one he really does take the first steps into adulthood. I also loved the mystery element. I had no idea who the assailant was until it was revealed. And the parts of Owein training Merritt with chaos magic and finally getting a body was so wonderful. And I loved our first look at Queen Victoria. Such a fleshed out and powerful character. I hope we see more of her in the future.
I really loved this book and cannot wait until the 4th. This is my favorite series I've read of Holmberg, with the perfect mash of character development and magic system to set my brain abuzz.

3.5 or 3.75 I don’t know yet!

I am really enjoying this series, and while I like this one more than the second one, the first book of the series is still my favorite. I love this characters, specially Owein! Again, the way this series goes about found family is what keeps me coming back to it. It was less dark than the first two, still it held its whimsical feel and I was more than entertained by it.

Can’t wait for the last book of this series, although I will be sad that it ends.

Some of my favorite quotes:

“Darkness, I mean. It’s just a part of the world. Part of life. It makes sense to me now. And my darkness . . . that’s a piece of my story, like a chapter in one of your books. I’m not supposed to tear it out. It makes me stronger. It adds to what I’m facing now, and what I’ll face in the future. It’s part of me, just like my legs or my magic or my mind.”

“Hulda, I am a better man because of you. I am a found man. You have changed everything in my life for the better. I honestly don’t know how I lived before you. I want your face to be the first thing I see in the morning, and your voice to be the last I hear at night, forever and always. I will gladly haunt this house with you for eternity.”

“You have written me a happy ending, and I cannot fathom a better story than ours.”
