Okay things definitely picked back up and this was a crazyyyy ride. I found it so so entertaining and so fun but the main plot kind of irked me

After reading the first two books in the Whimbrel House series last year, I was so excited to receive the advanced reader copy for this book. Seriously, I've been waiting months for this book.

I'm disappointed to say that I've struggled to get into it. This may be due, in part, to the fact I've not been reading much of this genre lately. However, I also feel it's largely a matter of plot and pacing. I'm just shy of the 40% mark on this book and it still doesn't seem to be going much of anywhere. This isn't a DNF for me but I am taking a break. Maybe if I come back to it later with fresh eyes I'll feel differently.

Until then, sorry to say that this book did very little to capture my interest or imagination.

Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced reader copy of this book.

I loved it!!
4 stars bc I didn’t like how much agency was taken away from our boy esp by the main characters (although made up for later I suppose). Like imagine if you were a translator or interpreter and they weren’t saying anything you told them - that sucks!!! As always with this series it turns out very heartwarming and good in the end so it’s okay and I will be patiently waiting for #4!!
I hope #4 expands on some of the themes of British imperialism bc we kind of touched on that but then the royal family is still a supporter. I mean it’s the 1840s like it’s literally the HEIGHT of the Great Hunger in Ireland. If anything, this is like Bridgerton political rules but with magic if that makes sense (which is okay; just don’t hint at more)

It'd been a while since I dove into this series, so I needed a little catch-up on who was who and what was happening. Luckily, it didn't take long for me to get back into this universe.

I've always liked Owein, so it was really cool to see him get the main focus in this story – definitely kept things interesting.

I also enjoyed seeing how Merrit and Hulda were getting on while planning their wedding. They've got a great chemistry in this book.

It wasn't just the old gang either; we got a bunch of new characters like the royal family and the Druids, who I found really interesting. I'm really hoping to learn more about them in the next book.

The only thing was, the story sometimes felt a bit jumpy with the speed. It would go really fast and then slow right down again.
But luckily, the mystery in the middle kept me hooked until the end.

Overall, it was a really good story with a surprise twist at the end. I can't wait to read the next one! 🙌

Another cute installment in this cozy series! I’m glad Owein got his book. I enjoyed how everything wrapped up at the end. Hulda and Merritt are precious as always.

I listened to the audiobook and couldn’t stand the male’s interpretation of literally every female character.
