I really liked it! The Trinidadian narration was interesting and I didn’t personally find it difficult to understand. The story was overall good but sometimes I just wasn’t motivated to pick it up.

A very raw and affecting book written in powerful Trinidadian creole (the audiobook read by the author is incredible!)
This is a difficult read about trauma, domestic violence and child abuse but ultimately has an ending of hope. For such a slender book it really packs a punch, it is harrowing to say the least however somehow manages to have heart warming scenes of friendship and even at times humour! The language is truely authentic which enables an organic closeness to the Main Character that I feel many books miss.

trigger warning for this book should be applied, the book had a lot of detailed descriptions of abuse.
I actually enjoyed the prose which i know a lot of people didn't.
