is a skilled writer, but this book suffers from lack of the MMC perspective during pivotal moments, little of the authors deft world building, and lightly recycled tropes and angst from previous installments. The book isn't flattered by parallels between the first. MMC has the bones of a classic swoony Wells MMC, but just a bit short of meat. Grovel was strong but motivations weren't fleshed out enough in the MMC perspective. The best parts are the best parts of every Cate book, but they're a little skint. Felt like it was missing about 100 pages.
