Electric, practically crackles. An overall sensation and a brutally honest depiction of the separation but also connection between motherhood and womanhood. A refreshing horror story with enough humor to make it digestible while also knowing when to cut back on such to explain the intensity and disturbance of certain scenes. I hope Yoder continues to write more novels in her career.

Nightbitch reminded me a lot of With Teeth (Kristen Arnett), but with a surrealist, gorey, and more magical-realism twist. This book is definitely not for the faint of heart--I enjoy reading body horror but omg I couldn't eat while reading some scenes in the story.

I think the beginning 2/3rds of the story was really strong; the unnamed characters and their relationships with each other are truly fascinating, and I thought Yonder did a great job of capturing the everyday brutality of being a child's caretaker. Some of the language and stream-of-consciousness writing lost me at the end of the story, and I wonder if this novel could have been like 50 pages shorter...

Overall I really enjoyed reading Yonder's prose! It's on the flowery side, but there are plenty of action-packed scenes in the book, so I didn't feel like the author's prose hindered the pacing of the story *too much*. A stellar debut; one of the most disturbing/weird things I've ever read in my life, but stellar nonetheless!

(Also, so many content warnings for this book... This book is really disturbing, like probably more disturbing than anything you've read before...)
