On the one hand, I like the underlying plot of the Mystic Bayo series- on the other, however, I always want to scratch my ears out when the male characters objectify women and want to possess them - exclusively! I just don't get how that is romanticized!!
Furthermore, where are the BIPoC? Where are the Queers? How is a place with mystic creatures so hetero and white?
It's nice enough entertainment for folding the laundry, so I'll probably continue listening to it.

It has been a while since I listened to the previous Mystic Bayou story. It was nice to be back into the small town of paranormal creatures. In this story, we have Brendan O’Connor, a rare male banshee and Cordelia Canton, a touch psychic who gets memories from stuff she touches. They come together to work on the weird artifact that was pulled from the rift.
This is a fun, light-hearted, comfort read, or well listen. If you’ve never listened/read to Molly Harper, she is very funny and her characters are so lovable. She brings a lot of snark and pop culture references. This book was no different. This series does have a bit of a formulaic feel, but it is still a fun escape.
This book did feel like it might be the last book in the series, since there was a bit of a conclusion, but I see there is an audiobook WHICH came out in January. So, I guess not. This is a series through Audible, so you can’t get it from other places and it is even a few months before it is available as an ebook. I’ll look forward to grabbing the next book (I still have a novella story to listen to as well).
Narration:
I’m a HUGE Amanda Ronconi fan. I listened to my first Molly Harper book and I can’t even imagine reading one of her books and not listening. She really brings out the characters’ personalities. She’s also great at including the snark Harper puts in her stories.
I had not listened to Jonathan Davis before this series. I had a really hard time with the first book, but I think it has gotten more cohesive. I don’t think his narration is bad, it just doesn’t stand up with Amanda Ronconi, in my opinion. I’m always more interested in the female POVs in this series, and I think it might have something to with the narration. I do think that if I listened to him in a different series where he was the only narrator, I would like him more. I think I just struggle with anyone else performing Molly Harper stories.

This title was first released as an Audible Original, which was ok with me since I love this series in audio. I am normally not a fan of dual narrators, but it really works in this series. I've grown to really enjoy Jonathan Davis' voice.
So we're back in Mystic Bayou where anything is possible. With Cordelia's special talents, we can get closer than ever before to the rift. It does put a strain on her, but we discover new things about the rift.
Brendan is hired basically to be Cordelia's backup or bodyguard. His talents run kind of on the scary side and we spend pretty much the whole book just waiting for his powers to activate. I know I was totally scared for Cordelia and that Brendan was going to see things to really mess things up.
As with previous installments in this series, as well as the other series I've listened to by Molly Harper, I get to have a mixture of emotions I enjoy. There is always humor, we get romance, and we get a mystery or adventure thrown in. Molly Harper combines these so well that I found myself totally engrossed in the story. I am also excited to have the continuation of our previous couple's stories. Jillian's definitely becoming extremely interesting!
I definitely recommend this series, and if you do not have an audible membership, they are eventually published in ebook. I really recommend getting it in audio. It is a great experience!

I was introduced to this world through my Audible membership and love it. I did not think this was the best of the books but it was good. I think Molly Harper has gotten a little formalic. I thought the female character was inconsistent and I would have liked to have the male lead be a little more depth. The voice actors we great.

These books are RIDICULOUS, and I love them. The characters are fun and funny, and I love how both the hero and heroine develop such strong groups of friends. I think the first in the series is probably the weakest, and the second my favorite, just because I freaking love Zed so dang much, but all of them are fun, and I really appreciate that Harper keeps all the characters from the previous books as active characters here. I listened to this 7 hour audiobook in two days because I couldn't put it down.

Please note; my star rating on any book is completely subjective and limited to the label for each star.
1 Star I didn’t like it
2 Stars It was okay
3 Stars I liked it
4 Stars I really liked it
5 Stars It was amazing!
If I do actually have something to say about a book other than what my enjoyment factor was, I will write a review and share my thoughts. If I say I didn’t like a book but there wasn’t anything about it that I thought needed to be shared, then that’s it, I just didn’t like it.
If you’d like to start a discussion about a book or you’d like an actual review, ask any question you like and I’ll be happy to try and comply/respond.
Additional note; I do not feed the trolls. If you don’t have something constructive to say, or if you can’t say it in a respectful way, you won’t get a response from me. Ever.
