I finally got to see the end of Uzumaki. I like how the characters are very sympathetic and try their best, but in the end, finding comfort is all they can do as everything falls apart around them.

im still soooo confused?? junji ito draws so well tho i literally got dizzy while looking at some parts

When I started the first volume, I had no idea it was going to end up progressing like that.

This was a pretty good ending for the series. It’s different from the first two in multiple ways. While they all revolve around a curse involving spirals that affect a small Japanese town, the first two volumes are more episodic. Each chapter focuses on a small paranormal occurrence that obtains some sort of resolution at the end. The third one is also somewhat like this, but has a heavier focus on the way the town descended into swirling chaos. It all feels like one event.

One thing that improved was Kirie, the protagonist. She still has the personality of a wet cardboard, but has more agency and actually does plot-relevant things. I don’t understand why the author insists on having people fall in love with her constantly when she is boring as hell. It had a slow start, but the last three chapters make up for it.

I'm scared I'm unwell and I'm lowkey scared of spirals.
The lost chapter didn't bring the same fear factor but 'the completion' as the ultimate finale made up for that.
it's going to absolutely haunt me that we never know the origin of the spiral. And the snail people will haunt me too because why would Junji Ito do that?????

This was a great ending to a great series, very creepy and interesting. Again I found the ending to be a bit lackluster, which seems to be a recurring situation with these volumes. The creepiness of the rest of the story made up for it though.
