Packed full of wisdom. Not a quick read, but worth the time!

While I found many things in this book that made me think and reflect, and probably will continue to do so, I was distracted by several things.  The two main ones were the author often used more lofty vocabulary than necessary for a book intended not for academic study but reflection by all.  Secondly, the author quoted or referred to others' work so frequently it made it hard to follow his point at times, since the many people he was quoting used different terminology for the same concept.

After reading Father Richard's e-mail meditations for several years, this is the first book of his I've read. This is an amazing book. It is both challenging and encouraging at the same time! It gives a glimpse into where we have been, and who we are to become as we move into the second half of our lives. It is helping me make sense out of the course my life has taken, and shed light into where my life is headed. It is encouraging to see that changes in life that seem crazy from the first half point of view make so much sense moving into second half living. I am looking forward to re-reading this book with a group of close friends, sharing reflections on how each of our lives have moved as is described so well in this book. I heartily recommend this book to aspiring and newbie second halfers (myself included!) A must read and re-read.

This book has become almost a reference book. I shelve it, then wonder about something Rohr said about faith, purpose and the mysteries of life and so pull the book out again to refresh my memory. I find Rohr’s writing appealingly gentle and deeply insightful in a way that transcends boundaries of creed and denomination.

I was actually surprised to find the book so helpful. In many ways, Rohr's message is obvious - a meaningful life is about more than identity and upward mobility. I'm guessing no one who picks up this book would argue with that premise. But knowing it and living it can be two different things and I find Rohr's insights to be heartening and steadying.

Treats with an assumption that the reader has a Christian and spiritual worldview, as the author is Catholic. I enjoyed listening to it (read by the author) and it’s a nice spiritual self-help book, though I am younger than the intended audience. But very stoic in thought, which is nice.
