I have never experienced something so powerful, or heartbreakingly beautiful.

I do think this is one of the best books I’ve ever read in my life. I hope this is the kind of caliber they’re having kids read in school these days (kids these days LOL I sound like I’m 50 not 25) because this changed my life. full stop.

this is the story of two sisters in the middle of france during WWII right as the germans invade the country and - well, we all know what happens next. but this story is so deep and connected not only to the history of the french and germans alike, but to the history of a traditional family torn apart by war.

kristin hannah’s writing was beyond beautiful. I found myself totally immersed in the story, feeling all of the same emotions as the characters, and I really do think this is going to be a book that changes me.

obviously, please note that this is a heavy book and there are loads of triggers. it will simultaneously shatter your heart into pieces and give you hope for the future.  and trust me, I’m not a crier, but here I am: BAWLING MY EYES OUT as I read the final chapter.

I just am in total shock that KH had the mental capacity to write such a work of art. PEOPLE!! the HYPE IS REAL!!!

if you have a heartbeat, you should read this book.
