I enjoyed this book. It was decent. There were a lot of twists, and the romance was investing. It was kind of annoying in those few chapters when the POV's were constantly switching. No one cares about Agatha! It was pretty fast-paced at some points, and the plot wasn't very spicy.

I can see why people like it. I'll probably read the sequel, just to see if it gets better from here. I liked the Angst, although I wish there were more. Specifically hurt/comfort. I wasn't particularly fond of the ending. I mean, the Baz and Simon dance didn't seem that adequate of an ending for a 517 page long book.

It was a lot less angsty than I think it should have been. Simon and Baz had been through a lot, and nobody mentions Simons home life, even though they know about it. Like UGH, I need more sadness upon this man!

I did get a bit sad at some character death.

As always, this is just one of the best books ever in the YA, queer, and magic school genres. It’s a part of my soul and I’m so grateful for it.....now time to cry even more in wayward son! Woo!

Since 'Wayward Son', the second book in the series has come out, I thought I will start with the first book. I was informed that there are no cliffhangers at the end. True, but it leaves something worse than that; a sense of doom. As expected the second book evolves on this issue and sadly it is not yet resolved (I had a peek at the end of 'Wayward Son' to be sure).
But we are not here to talk about 'Wayward Son'. Let's just blot out its existence and think of the happily ever after on which 'Carry On' ends. If you haven't heard about this book, then let me enlighten you. This is the gay version of Harry Potter (with a mix of Twilight). The story is almost the same but shorter and with a gay love story. It is cute, magical and romantic. As you must have guessed by now, I didn't swoon at the end being highly suspicious of the 'ever after' part.
Baz and Simon are one of the best gay couples I have encountered. Their predicament is heart throbbing and I closed the book with a heavy heart. Will love be enough for Simon? Well, let's hope the next books will answer to that. Considering the amount of time Rowell took to write the second book, I guess we are in a rather long wait.

"Le echo maldiciones. Lo molesto en los pasillos. Estoy todo el rato pensando en matarlo, y algún día tendré que volver a intentarlo. Pero, hasta entonces, ¿qué sentido tiene?

Voy a perder.

Ese día, cuando Snow y yo de verdad tengamos que enfrentarnos, perderé. [...]

Éste es mi mundo, el mundo de los Hechiceros. Tengo que cumplir con mi deber y luchar por él. Aun sabiendo que voy a perder.

Simon está de pie delante de su armario, buscando una camisa limpia que ponerse. Estira un brazo sobre la cabeza y veo cómo se le marcan los músculos de los hombros.

Lo único que hago es perder".

Voy a ser totalmente honesta. Llevo casi una semana en cama enferma, y es seguramente la única razón por la que pude leer Carry On sin morir en el intento. No es que haya sido malo, pero son más de 500 páginas donde apenas suceden cosas interesantes y, aunque al final te des cuenta de que la mayoría no es relleno-relleno, sigue siendo muy difícil pasar de la página 200. Pero, extrañamente, igual tengo más cosas buenas que malas que decir sobre este libro. Ni siquiera yo me lo esperaba. [b:Eleanor & Park|15745753|Eleanor & Park|Rainbow Rowell|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1341952742s/15745753.jpg|17225055] y [b:Fangirl|16068905|Fangirl|Rainbow Rowell|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1355886270s/16068905.jpg|21861351] son dos libros estrella de la autora, y ninguno me gustó demasiado. Fangirl me frustró mucho, incluso. Así que es algo bueno que tenga tantas cosas buenas para decir de este libro.

El mundo mágico. Tenía mucho miedo de encontrarme con una copia barata de Harry Potter, y no pude haber estado más equivocada. Lo único que tienen en común, tanto con HP como con otras cientos de historias, es que hay un colegio mágico y un "Elegido". Rowell juega muy bien con estos dos elementos, y se siente una historia fresca e interesante, novedosa hasta cierto punto. Me encanta especialmente que la magia esté en las palabras, y que no sea difícil para el lector imaginar un nuevo hechizo.

¿En contra? Jamás dejé de sentir que estaba leyendo el Fanfic de [b:Fangirl|16068905|Fangirl|Rainbow Rowell|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1355886270s/16068905.jpg|21861351]. Sé que Rowell no tuvo el tiempo de Rowling, y que fue a propósito tirarnos en medio del drama, pero igual se sintió que no podía seguir el paso. Quizá con más libros, o con un ritmo distinto, podría haber sentido mucha más pertenencia a este mundo y mucho más cariño a sus personajes.

Baz y Agatha. Mis dos personajes favoritos, sinceramente me encantó lo bien pensados que estaban, y realmente disfruté todos sus povs. PERO a veces me perdía mucho en el pov que estaba leyendo porque la voz se sentía demasiado parecida para todos.

El humor también me encantó.

Algo que sí no me pasa, y de lo que la autora estaba bastante consciente, es el papel tan poco relevante que tienen las chicas. En el mismo libro te dicen que pasa el test de Bechdel, pero creo que esto fue un check list más que nada. Me gusta mucho el papel de Agatha, pero no creo que sea justo decir que las chicas están bien representadas, y me parece una tragedia enorme porque se nota que es un mensaje que la autora quería dar, el que las chicas no son sólo "tu final feliz" o "tu mejor amiga" o "una madre", pero sencillamente creo que no lo logró.

En general, recomiendo este libro a quienes buscan una historia de enemigos-a-novios, y no les importe que sea LENTA. A mí me gustó porque me dejó descansar de libros que tienen un ritmo mucho más desesperado, pero puedo ver que a mucha gente le desesperaría lo lento que sucede todo. Lo que sí puedo asegurar es que, para mí, el final valió la pena. Las piezas que te dan a lo largo del libro terminan encajando bien. Así que, si buscas una lenta historia bonita con magia, sin duda es para ti.
