Really loved these three first books, even though it took me another year to start the last one. The first book was one of the most pleasurable readings ever, I was really captivated by the arabic and islamic influence it had on the story. I also loved the second and third book, although I think the last one suffered a bit from having two irritating toddlers as protagonists eheh.

I can see now why Dune is considered the greatest science fiction novel of all time. It is the culmination of years of research and preparation, ingenious philosophy and masterful writing. It is also the foundation for almost every science fiction novel, show, movie and video game that came after it. In this sense, it could be called the ‘Lord of the Rings’ of its genre, and just as essential to literary fans.
About the audiobook:
I listened to the audio version, performed by Scott Brick at al. Everyone involved was exemplary, but the direction was inconsistent - sometimes it was narrated by a single person, then at others it was performed like a radio play, replete with a cast, sound effects and music. The expression of the characters between the two formats was noticeably different. I would have preferred that the producers picked a style and stayed with it exclusively. Thankfully the quality of every performance was so good that it did nothing to detract from the book itself.
