At the start of this book, Birdie struggles to know her worth. Her fiancé is a POS who’s hinted at her losing some weight their entire relationship ship. He’s also been cheating on her for months. When he leaves her high and dry—along with the rent money she gave him—she moves in with her best friend and tries to get her life back on track.

Enter Cohen.

Cohen is a silver fox that Birdie meets at the bar and ends up going  home with. Later,  she finds out he is the father of one of the students at her school and she tries to put on the brakes. But she and Cohen are drawn to each other like magnets. They continue “not dating” and keep their relationship a secret.

As Birdie works hard to help her students, keep her love life hidden, and keep her job… crap hits the fan and a chain reaction takes place upending Birdie’s entire life. She  thought she had already hit rock bottom when her fiancé left her but this is a whole new low.

Will Birdie and Cohen be able to find their way back to each other once the smoke clears?

Kelsie was able to fit so many different facets into this book and blend them perfectly! You have two people who grew up in completely different ways but both carved paths that weren’t expected of them. You have parallels being drawn  between fraternization clauses and young people (or everyone) feeling the need to hide in the closet for lack of acceptance. And you have a woman who has been told she is too much in every way and told to make her self smaller in more ways than one finding the person who can’t get enough of her. And I will always root for a story where women realize that they get to be exactly who they are and the right people will be there to love and support them. This book was truely beautiful and well done!

Look. You’re probably reading this book for the same reason I’m read this book…because of a Facebook ad or Booktok. And actually…I’m not disappointed at all. I’ll probably read the entire rest of the series if they’re anything similar to this book. Very cozy, easy read with relatable characters, spice that doesn’t overtake the plot, a HEA, and (spoiler?) they DONT bang on the first chapter. Yes!! Here for the build up and tension. FINALLY a FMC that isn’t a baby either, she’s…late twenties/early thirties? Yes, there’s an age gap, but they don’t focus on it and it’s close enough of a gap that it’s not icky to me. I love the MMC and his friends. He’s the definition of “if he wanted to, he would”.
