It makes me sad whenever a book with a good premise is poorly written.

This book is an example of that.

The Schemer is deliciously naughty fun. It's a battle of the "down and dirty attitude" and the "pretentious wannabe". May the odds be ever in your favor...

Two neighbors and a feud that will have you cracking up at their particular forms of vengeance, makes The Schemer highly entertaining. The tension and desire wafting off of these two make it hot. And the meddlesome "friends" are the icing on the cake.

The cast of this book will have me going to start at the beginning. I can't wait to meet them where it all began.

The Schemer brings one of my favorite romance tropes, Enemies to Lovers. Everly and Tyler are a perfect pair but seeing that through the cloud of sass, snark and bickering makes it hard to see. These two will make you laugh until you cry. The comebacks between Everly and Tyler are priceless! I so enjoyed the cooking classes and there is a pretty good grovel. A secondary romance falls happens within the pages of The Schemer that just puts a big smile on my face. Tyler and Everly are an awesome couple and I very much enjoyed seeing them get to their happy place.

Avery Flynn always amazes me with her combination of sexy and funny that always delivers an amazing story that will entertain readers from beginning to end. The Schemer is everything I love of Ms. Flynn work and then some. The Schemer is the third book of the Harbor City Series and could be read as a stand alone, however reading the previous books will enhance the enjoyment of The Schemer.

Avery Flynn is one of my favorite authors. The Schemer is book #3 in the Harbor City Series. The schemer is a fun sexy RomCom and Everly and Tyler’s story had me turning pages to see what would happen next. Definitely a must read.

Got too cheesy at the end. Don’t sacrifice characters’ consistency for a rom com ending!

Meh. I’ve loved everything I’ve read from this author so far but this one fell flat. It almost felt like too many smaller side stories going on at once and I just didn’t give as many shits about Tyler as I did the other main characters. Perhaps because I felt he was kind of a jerk in the other Harbor City books.

A great end to this series!

I'm glad we got to see Tyler get his HEA - as he started off as a pseudo-villian in book 1 to becoming the wrong love interest in book 2 and then he became a real, authentic man in this book. Everly was the perfect woman to show Tyler that there is more to life than being uber-successful and having loads of money. Everly reminded Tyler of his roots (colour me shocked here as I didn't guess that!!) and showed him that acknowledging where you come from can make you a better person - even if you aren't the same as you once were. There was plenty of laughs, lots of heat and some truly heartfelt scenes.

Not even close to Flynn's best work. First I still don't get the point of that epilogue, especially since none of the couples in it seem to actually be interacting. They're all in the same room having private conversations with their significant others. It's super weird.

Second, the positions and locations might have been different but the sex scenes are entirely too similar to the Charmer. The couples have the exact same proclivities which is redundant and weird. Also, the balance between sex and plot, much like the Negotiator is screwed up to the point that the sex scenes just get old and are much too close together.

I may have understood some of the backstories to explain why Tyler and Everly were the way they were, but I still didn't find them likable and with the narration on Audible the accents were just grating on the ears. It's hard to get into a story where you don't really like the people you're reading about. Then there's this plethora of side characters in this world who barely even spoke in cameos, in most cases it just mentioned they were there and that's about all. I feel like if you're going to build a world like that that actually has such remarkable characters (not obviously including the main ones who are pretty much the only characters I've met so far in this world that I don't actually like) that you should be utilizing them in more scenes.

The part of the book I really did like was Helena and Alberto's love story and honestly I think I would have enjoyed the book a lot more if it had been solely about the two of them. Their characters are more interesting and I kind of love the idea of a love story between two people who have lived through and experienced so much.

It's an okay book but honestly I'm not all that impressed.
