I love miles cameron sci-fi. This book is great, but it suffers a tiny bit from being the first in a 3 part series. But it does introduce you to the world and its characters well. Better than most.
This is a book that should be evaluated on its terms - what the author was trying to right. And here the intended story is of a desperate rebellion against monstrous gods who see humans as playthings. Its dark, bloody and brutal, and all of that just accentuates the story and the world. Its excellently paced with good characters and for once, I did not want to skip the fighting descriptions. The world building is also quite original and in a way refreshing.

A fun fantasy read. Interesting setting and characters. A bit faster paced and "on the rails" compared to some of Miles Cameron's other books that I have read (no main character, not much sticking around in one place).
Setting is very Bronze aged inspired, with Greek, Mesopotamian and Egyptian influences.

3 stars out of 5. It was entertaining. I had nice concepts. I see where the names of the protagonists are going (greek god names).
It just lacked a ... spark to add another star. But I'm very stoked to read the next instalment!
