The book starts off well, but by the end of chapter 1 you know exactly what's going on until near the last third. The plot until over 60% of the way through is straight forward, the main character doesn't even realize what happened to them until about 40%. This is frustrating as the reader as you're sitting around waiting for the book to catch up to where you know it's going.

The main character is one dimensional and does not change at all throughout the book, interestingly this ties into the plot and is excusable. What isn't excusable is that all other characters in the book are also one dimensional, the son could be replaced with a cardboard cutout the wife carries around and the story would not change dramatically. There are also several characters at the end of the story that the author explicitly tells the reader that they have "changed" but goes into no detail about this and does not explore the concept beyond the surface observation that their motivation has changed because the plot demands it.

As much as it pains me to say it, the show Rick & Morty has explored many of the concepts in this book and dulled the wonder of interacting yourself in a multiverse. But if you have not watched the show this book may be a 4 or 5 star for you.

If you enjoy the dilemma at the end of the book you will also really enjoy the game SOMA which came out in 2015, it goes on sale for $5 often.

Firstly, I read this to watch the show with my husband, feels
ironic.
I will say this is out of my typical genre and I don’t care for
the concept of alternate dimensions.
Regardless, I did find this a rather quick read and look forward to watching the show. It brings up a lot of thought about how decisions in your life can truly alter your future in ways you may never know. I will say
there were too many Jason’s. I think I would have enjoyed this more with just Jason 1 and 2 duking it out at the end - not a hundred or however many.
When it was the parts with the
Jasons’ text chain
I was just thinking, ok this is too much. The very ending…
why couldn’t they get a happy ending in their own universe?! Although, I did enjoy the imagery of Charlie silhouetted in the light from the door, but still.
Considering reading the Wayward Pines series by this author, although I watch the show already so I’m not quite sold on that yet.

This feels a lot more like an action movie than a science fiction piece, but probably because it's riffing on a concept that, by now, is pretty hackneyed. If you are familiar with the concept of quantum reality, alternate timelines, and multiplicity, then you will probably find this story exceedingly slow, and painfully obvious.

I felt like I needed popcorn, and for it to only last 2 hours, rather than the 7½ hours it takes listening to it at accelerated speed.
I told my son about the start of the story and he told me to be quiet because it was all too obvious. The first quarter of the book is wasted on the main character trying to figure out what is happening, when as a reader it was dead obvious from the start.

I did like the story; it was just really derivative.
