Relatable to the point of discomfort. I love Emily Austin's writing style, and will pick up more from them.

Perfect in every single way. Emily Austin’s writing is just alive, there’s no other way for me to explain it. All of the characters, especially the narrator, are so lovable and easy to connect with.

The characters are especially diverse, and I really loved the representation of people who struggle with mental illness, LGBTQIA+ people and their relationships, and those who are neurodivergent.

I love the way this story approached our flaws as humans and how they (and trauma) affect us and aid in determining how we interact with the world around us.

Endearing, heartwarming, reflective, AND funny??? Just beautiful. 5 stars. No notes.

An absolute masterpiece once again from Emily Austin. Please rush out and snag this when it’s released later this month because she just understands what it’s like to be so in your head all the time and how to overcome it. This book is laugh out loud funny - seriously I was guffawing - and also so touching that I had tears in my eyes. A new favorite for me for sure!!

I wasn’t sure about this one when I started- the pace and structure of the story felt a little erratic to me and it was hard to get my groove while reading. As the story progressed and I got to know the protagonist, Enid, I better understood the uniqueness of the structure and it how it immersed me into Enid’s mind.

This story is funny and lighthearted while also a heart wrenching look back at childhood with themes of depression, abandonment, loneliness, trauma, and PTSD. Enid’s journey of self discovery was a really lovely (and sometimes difficult) read, the supporting characters were lovable and memorable, and I got some great space facts along the way. Who knew that it rains diamonds on Jupiter and Saturn and a day on Venus is longer than a year on Venus?!

This ended up being sooooooo much better than I initially expected. At first, not much at all happened. Our main character, Enid, went to work, went on a couple of dates, talked to her mom on the phone—all very ordinary happenings. I kept reading, though, because I began to enjoy watching Enid develop relationships with others. Also, it was one of my Book of the Month selections (iykyk 😅). At one point, Enid found herself regularly seeing a therapist, and this reader and Enid simultaneously gained an answer to the question ‘Who is Enid?’ While there was a plot to the story, the main focus of this novel was character development. I’m so glad I didn’t give up!

Side note: I loved Polly. I mean, she called a stranger a bitch to her face. What’s not to love?
