The end is wild and I’d be so mad if I was the main character
specifically at the friend, it would have been soooooo easy for him to just tell her it was him 🙄 ugh

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC of this book. I love a quirky narrator, and this delivered on that, plus it centered on a queer person, so even more bonus points! As I tried to describe this book to my partner, it was hard to nail down what the "plot" was beyond getting to know the protagonist. It did eventually build up the suspense, but I didn't care because the book was such a delight to read.

I loved this! For me it was even better than Everyone In This Room Will Someday Be Dead. Enid’s story was captivating and had me on the edge of my seat. I did not expect the ending, but it left me feeling pretty warm and fuzzy. Just an all around enjoyable read.

“I struggle to stomach sincerity, or to express any authentic emotion, because everything feels insincere when you suspect that deep down, in the chasm of yourself, the most sentient part of you is a little ill-intentioned monster. I feel like a husk, like I am being gradually taken over, and that all my feelings and thoughts are tampered with. I am nervous when I interact with people like Edna. I don't want to expose her to Plankton. I think there have been times in the past where he took me over completely.”

“I will never understand how my dad could stand in the glow of my mom, as if an inch from a star, and be unmoved by her formidable light. It has been devastating to watch her fade in response to him."
