This story is masterfully narrated by Cameron Bierle and it is simply superb!

Adding more voices to accommodate more characters without detracting from the previous ones? Incredible!

This is an incredible series to recommend to your kids.

Own.

Love.

This book is one of my favourites they way it describes perfectly the unlikely hero realising they have power and being a teenage great about it makes me laugh and crime in equal measure.
Of course we get to meet a few new members of the party in this book including the infuriating Ce'Nedra. I've always found her character in the early books to be very annoying which is probably intentional.
No spoilers as usual but when Garion is kidnapped the first real peril and pace moment of the series arrives and you get a first real glimpse into the power of Polgara!

I like the way the reader did the snake voices, but some of the other accents bug me a little.

Good continuation of the series, and a good way to spend a couple evenings.

Garion continues on a classic hero's journey with notable character growth. Of course he is still subject to adolescent angst and rebellion, but that makes him more relatable. The supporting characters have only a little growth, mostly confined to learning more backstory on his aunt and grandfather.

The world-building is wonderful, showing two new countries with their respective cultural stereotypes. But also just enough people going against each stereotype to keep it from being trite. We learn some more about magic in this world as well.

A more enjoyable read than the first one. The protagonists are more fun to read about this time. Still can't shake the feeling that comes with watching a soap opera. You feel guilty but can't stop watching it (reading it in this case). The story was a lot more engrossing this time. Some parts are still predictable and a few others leave you scratching your head as to the intentions of the characters. The book still does not come out of the YA mode though. There are still some feeble attempts at humor. So why 4 stars then? Despite all this, it's very likable and is a fun read.

Another solid entry in this series. I like that we now know a bit more about what's going on and what our characters are up to and we can set about working towards completing our mission. The world that Eddings created is so cool and I love how much of it we get to explore. Each country has its own culture and customs and we get to see a few new ones in this story. Some of the plot in this series is a bit predictable, especially to the modern reader. For example,
Spoiler we're working on collecting one person from each country so you know there's going to be someone new picked up in each section of the book.
but for me the world is interesting enough that I'm ok if the plot is a bit slow at times.

I particularly love Nyissa. Not sure why because it seems like it would be a horrid place to visit but perhaps that's my Slytherin side showing in my love for a country with a snake god. Also, that section of the story gives Polgara the opportunity to be totally badass. She's 100% my favorite character and I wanted to bleach a blonde streak in my dark hair when I was younger so I could look like her.
