Audio Review

I love this series. I took a break from this author for a couple of years due to personal reasons but have been dying to re read or  listen to this book again.

I adore Lane and his awkward personality, he is hilarious, and Jared's eternal patience is a joy to read and listen to.

You can tell the author has done her research and understands the hockey world.
emotional funny hopeful medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

Ok that was very cute. Lots of funny bits. And it lasted about six chapters more than I thought it would, it just kept going and going, which was delightful.

Why? Because the extra chapters addressed relationships with parents in large part. All four of them. All four ALIVE AND HEALTHY parents. Because, shockingly, this author felt that gay and bi adults relationships with their parents matter. Not just as drama or a source of terrible pain for the poor protagonists, but as actually human beings with more than one side to them.

God bless her.

And yeah, there were some great funny bits as well.

The humor in this one was so good and I enjoyed it so much.

So much hockey! Excellent. I didn't understand the author's characterization choice for the rookie. It was not enjoyable.

This was a lot of fun and excellent distraction on a stressful flight/day. As with the latter book in this series, I particularly enjoy the way the characters are all vivid and rounded, and the author does a great job with both writing bi characters and with having women around and involved in a m/m story who get to have their own lives, too. Also, the hockey content was great and well written, which is always a bonus. Third book definitely going on my 'buy immediately' list when its out.

This story was adorable. I have never watched a game of Hockey in my life but it is one of my favourite fictional sports themes to read.

This was no exception. The Hockey stuff was a fun backdrop to Lane and Jared's relationship.

You'll have to go read other reviews for all the finer details.

I thought both characters were strong, and I loved Lane's youth in this. I also loved his curiosity about breasts. Hilarious. His friendship with Zoe was great too. There is a noticeable lack of strong female friendships in the MM books I have read to date, so it is nice to see this was a big part of the story.

If you enjoy sports fiction this is definitely a good one.

Fun and adorable and hot. A couple of too-easy fixes at the end, but overall a very good read.

Fun. Sexy. Will read the next one!

I really really loved this. I love poor socially awkward, foot lives permanently in his mouth, Lane. His brain is an awesome thing and I want him to be my best friend. Jared was so perfect for him. He was so charmed by Lane, so much so that it baffled him. It was great. I loved the supporting characters. I liked how things ended up with both sets of parents. I just don't know how the rest of the series can possibly live up to Lane.

Lane Courtnall is a young draftee for the Bolts who got sent down to the ECHL to "develop". He's hopeful that he'll get called up again soon. Jared Shore is a career player in the minor leagues, aware that his time in the sport is coming to an end - he's thirty-one. It's a brutal game, boys.

Lane is closeted and inexperienced and so goddamn endearing, in a dumb hockey sort of way. He is like an overeager puppy and is very bad at feelings, "which is why he plays sports". Jared tries to stay away, because god knows hockey isn't the easiest place to develop a Good and Functioning Relationship, but they're drawn to each other through mutual attraction and Jared's bewildered, fond thoughts of "is this guy for real?" Because Lane is just ... so odd.
Lane had thought about playing goalie when he was younger, but he would just stand up and tell the other kids why they weren’t getting the puck past him, and apparently that was irritating.
They hook up and worry about it becoming something More, because Lane is young and just starting his pro career and Jared is at the end of his. Lane is mad at his parent's inability to accept his sexuality and Jared is wary of being burned again by someone who wasn't serious about him.

Sidebar: The NHL is the only one of the Big 4 leagues without a single openly gay player, current or former. They have a "You Can Play" campaign that is designed to encourage people of all ethnicities and sexualities to embrace hockey and it will just hug them right back. I love hockey, but that's just lip service as the organization stands right now. The NWHL/CWHL is, of course, miles and miles above and beyond them. The former captains of the USWNT and Team Canada just had a baby together. These leagues also have their problems, but as usual, women are leading the way.

The easiness of the writing and the subject matter and the characters makes me suspect that Ms. Gale is a current or former fic writer. The dialogue is hilariously awkward and realistic and spoiler alert, Lane & Jared get their happy ending. i'm love it
