I think I need to text my mom and tell her how rude it is that she didn't read this to me when I was a kid. It's such a sweet story. It's funny and heartwarming and a little sad.

I enjoyed the movie Peter Pan when I was a child, so I was intrigued by this story. I am planning to read a retelling/continuation and so wanted to read the original book. I was sadly pretty disappointed.

The shell of the story I enjoyed from the movie was here, but between the prosaic language and what I consider inappropriate content for children, this story fell flat for me. It was hard/difficult for me to always understand what the author was saying. I honestly just finished since it was short but it wasn’t an experience I enjoyed.

Some of the inappropriate things that I noticed was that Tinkerbell’s description was a tiny bit sexualized and some fairies were coming back from an orgy. Tinkerbell often used the word a** towards Peter and the Lost Boys. There was also a lot of violence/bloodlust in the children though not graphic.

I did enjoy the imagination aspect and will still always enjoy the cartoon I grew up with. I just feel that this isn’t a book, I’d be reading to children.

Content Guide:
Language: Mild - a** used a few times
Spice: Level 0: No kissing
TW: Indians carrying scalps, killing/murder, orgy mentioned
Content Considerations: This book had a lot of content issues. I would not read this to my children.

Though the story of Peter Pan is so familiar, I found myself enjoying the classic and experiencing it through parts of the story not well known through society reference, or movies. The end is bittersweet.
It is important to note that in discussions of racial, gender topics, this book would give some thoughts to be discussed.

I read this long ago but remember that it's beautiful but also heart breaking in a way that the Disney movie ignores.

We come across familiar elements that we know and love in the book such as Wendy being shot down from the sky, Peter Pan tricking Smee and the rest of the crew, Tinkerbell dying from the poison Hook left and if children believe in fairies they come back to life

This book holds a lot of the magic I loved as a child: magic, make-believe, pirates, fairies, mermaids. I enjoyed the escapism of the book and could picture various films at certain scenes. A swashbuckling, fantasy adventure full of excitement. There are also morals to consider such as the importance of parents guiding us on the principles of right and wrong, how growing up is a part of life and to keep childhood magic alive in well known characters such as Tinkerbell and Peter Pan: the boy who never grew up.
