Gosh, I love Ramona. My five-year-old is loving these books, though this one was a little tense sometimes as we were only reading half a chapter at a time and the discomfort with Mrs. Griggs was tough for a not-quite-schoolchild to hear. But it ended well, and there was much familial love and reassurance throughout. My husband and I greatly enjoy the timelessness of Cleary's characterizations and insights. We've recognized conversations practically word for word from our own home.

Did reading the Ramona books at such a young age lead to me deciding I didn't want children?

Probably not. But possible. Heavily possible.

I like her voice for this teacher better than the Southern voice she used for Mrs Binney in Ramona the Pest.

Beverly Cleary is unparalleled in her ability to write from the perspective of a child. I adore the Ramona series. They are timeless and could happen as easily today as when they were written 40 years ago. This particular book is not my favorite of the bunch, but is still wonderful. I think that I appreciate these books even more as an adult and reading them with the perspective of a parent.

The chapter "Ramona Says a Bad Word" had my 4 year-old and 11 year-old spellbound and then rolling on the floor laughing. So awesome.
