Probably didn’t give this one enough of a chance. I understand it’s a fantasy series and this is book one and I’m very early in.
HOWEVER, the description is vague. And I think that’s for a reason. The plot is messy as HELL. I’m not interested enough to see if it works itself out.

On another edition of Ariana Nash is a sadist. I have a migraine. I might be coherent after book 2 or maybe not because i sense stress already. If i see or hear “Kazak” on more time i will combust

just describing the plot of this book sounds like the perfect dream to me. what do u mean lark is an extravagant jester placed in the court of LOVE ?? with a tragic backstory and a twisting love affair full of pining and betrayal ?? how will any book i read after this top it ??
but in all seriousness, this book is genuinely great, a 5/5 for me
- lark is our jester mc who has a grand time using anyone and anything to get information until he gets framed for the queen’s murder . @_@ . the knotted tangle of lies that is the court of love unfold as the ‘ice prince’ who’s been in hiding for the last 4 years finally emerges to protect his kingdom. -
it’s a tragedy galore and has so much pining that ur heart will break specifically for lark, my poor little scrunkly who is getting constantly fucked over (っ˘̩╭╮˘̩)っ
the pacing is really good imo. it has a lot of action and even when it’s quiet, the characters are always trying to scheme 3 steps ahead of their opponent. i love when stories turn into “you did this so i did that but i knew how you’d react so it was actually this all along!”. also, i usually get stuck on the pacing of books since it’s so easy to get bogged down by filler action & description but it felt like everything meant something here. while i do wish nash went a little crazier with lark’s outfits, those types of things are easy to overlook.
i really enjoyed the romance between lark and arin, it’s bittersweet seeing their love for each other grow, esp since it was built on such an awful foundation. they’re both extremely wary & constantly trying to use the other for Something but there’s always a soft undercurrent in their actions for the other. i was nervous that arin was going to be the type of uncaring ml who would do anything for his power no matter the cost and while he IS extremely driven to protect his court, he always ends up caring too much & hoping for the best in others. i repeat that lark is my little scrunkly and i so desperately want to see him get a nice little spa day full of hugs and warmth
"The prince I was before, the one you met on your first day, he would have loved you with all his heart."
I LOVE A GOOD WHAT IF
i devoured this book (ignore my read dates i promise i read like 90% of it within the first weekend i had) and i need the sequel asap !!! i was soo distraught when i saw that it had only come out march 3rd ╥﹏╥ but now i’m just extra excited for the potential release in june !!
☆ i recommend listening to mephisto waltz by mephisto waltz and persephone by the cocteau twins for vibes ☆

as far away from prince razak as possible. also i never actually annotate but this quote broke me:"The prince I was before, the one you met on your first day, he would have loved you with all his heart."

draven was a character that blindsided me (even tho i should’ve seen it tbh) and i think it’ll be really interesting to see his reaction to lark and arin’s obsession w the other. can you believe i’m excited over a possible love triangle ? (for some context i usually hate them) all i hope for is that it’s not a 3-poly but that might be what happens (つ﹏<)i devoured this book (ignore my read dates i promise i read like 90% of it within the first weekend i had) and i need the sequel asap !!! i was soo distraught when i saw that it had only come out march 3rd ╥﹏╥ but now i’m just extra excited for the potential release in june !!

Amazing! The story is full of twists and turns. Lark is a loveable cinnamon roll. I read this in a day and cannot wait for the sequel ❤️
This is dark, check the trigger warnings first.
This is dark, check the trigger warnings first.
I've been waiting for this book since Ariadna announced it. I love dark books and it's what she promised us that she would give us.
On the one hand we have Lark our jester and a master in the art of lying. He uses trickery to get dirt on others and then use it against him but also to survive.
Something that got out of his control or rather someone was Prince Arin, who got under his skin and he couldn't figure it out, which made him a challenge but also something to admire.
I love the dynamic of these two, who in a certain way are very similar but at the same time so different, both have their noble side and their dangerous side.
Another character that I also want to discover more is Warlock Draven, they put him as an aristocrat who only knows about war but I think it's more complicated than that. And hopefully what could be a love triangle turns into a polyamorous relationship, I think these 3 could make a very interesting relationship.
And what about our villain, I love damaged characters and our prince Razak is a potential psychopath. Always one step ahead.
My only but is that hopefully the most disturbing moments / situations will show us and not just tell us.
