was excepting more about Bakari Sellers’ life growing up in South Carolina and the Vanishing South - not 200 pages on how good at politics he is

Very timely book! As a white woman from rural Mississippi, I appreciated learning about the perspective of blacks in the rural American South. I also gained a greater historical understanding of the oppression and violence against African Americans in South Carolina particularly, but other areas of the South as well, and how this history shapes the police brutality and inequalities that continue to exist in America today.

I wanted more cultural and less political. Two stars for the culture he included.

I was not familiar with Bakari Sellers leading into reading this book but learning about his history was so interesting. I loved how he explained who his father is, his own background, his political journey, etc. I really enjoyed this narrative and would definitely recommend it.

It was a great read for Black History Month!

I was hoping for more. I’m not really sure what the point of this book was. I feel harsh judging a memoir though.

this is a must-read

Crowns on the head - I found this book and bakari ‘s story - to date - to be honest and self reflective - clearly his parents instilled in him a belief that he could make a difference - I like that he shared his imperfections and fears - we need voices like his
