Nice, simple, easy read. The heroine was a strong, stubborn woman who had been friend with the hero since they were kids. The hero had his rogues days but was ready to settle and fell for the heroine. Overall a satisfactory beach read.

Fine but lacklustre.

A fun, romantic story.

The characters were likable and sweet. The story was typical. Girl makes vow to be spinster and then the guy finally shows interest. But still cute. It all ended a bit too nice and quick. The "drama/conflict" in the whole book was just nothing. All a coincidence in the end, which just seemed silly. Why have it if it's not going to add up to anything.

There is one graphic sex scene at the end and some other steamy scenes that aren't sex, but close.

It's kind of unbelievable that in the past, at 20 years old, you could be considering becoming a spinster. And where did that term come from anyways?

It's not my usual cup of tea, that's for sure.

I read historical or regency novels to clean my head and this book was just what I was needing. My mind didn't worry about the accuracy of the time period or the characters behaving like they should. My focus was enjoying the story, the romance and the fun that was watching Merry and Harcourt getting their happily ever after.

Warning, this book was not exactly a clean romance in my opinion but that just made it better in my eyes.

I would definitively come back for more of the Spinsters Club later on.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. I found this book to be a wonderful, endearing read. Merry believes there is a curse on her family; no happy marriages. When former rogue, Harry, seriously pursues Merry, Merry pushes him away. Will Harry finally convince Merry that curse is not real? Enjoy finding out.

So, this book. I will say that I read this book as part of a readathon but I bought it was a while ago as a recommendation for the author, rather than the book itself. And while I will say this book is readable, I probably wouldn't put it anywhere near a recommended reads list for romance.

Things I did like:

- a strong friendship group for the female main character. They didn't just appear at the start of the story to introduce the spinsters club and then disappear, the friendship is actually shown as they help Merry with the house and accompany her on shopping trips and talk about their lives together. It's friendship that actually feels like friendship rather than just in name only.

- Harcourt pining over Merry Hey, it's not the heroine pining over her brother's best friend, it's the other way around!

- Harcourt's mum A matchmaking mother that isn't overbearing or ignoring what her child wants completely? Yes please!

Things I didn't like:

- Suspense plot going nowhere
So Merry isn't in danger, it's just a series of unlikely coincidences at the same time as a distant relative showing up. It would have been far more interesting if there had been something actually going on apart from the romance but instead Harcourt just looks paranoid and overprotective.

- Merry's excuses. I understand she wants to be loyal to her friends but instead of talking it out, she holds everything in and angsts over everything. Oh yes, Merry, it really says something about your friends that you think they would prefer you to be unhappy. And how she keeps bringing up Harcourt's past to herself and to her friends but doesn't let him defend himself.

- Merry. Very similar to the category above. I was fed up with Merry and her constant denial of what Harcourt was feeling. If I felt like this was coming from Harcourt's own behaviour towards Merry, then I would find it fair enough but she seems to like and enjoy his company and her main objection was that he slept around in London. And then wouldn't talk to him about it. Alright then.

-The romance. Not that exciting and felt quite generic. That isn't good for a romance novel.

What I did like was far overshadowed by how nondescript the book was. The only thing that stood out for me was Merry's friendship with the rest of the girls. If the rest of the series is on Kindle Unlimited, I might check it out but right now I'm not tempted to spend any money on the rest of her books. This book was very quick, I think I finished it in about an hour but there wasn't anything else to really recommend it. 3 stars!

I am now dumber for having read this book. I kept going because I could not believe the entire conflict would be Merry’s vow to her friends from the prologue.

I was wrong.
