This was a cool werewolf novel about a girl who discovers she is a werewolf and has to hide what she is from the people she loves most.

I've always wanted to find and read a book about a werewolf and then I finally found Claire de Lune. Claire is and only child that has an absent mother and an au pair, at the beginning she has her birthday party where we meet her best friend her future boyfriend, and the towns problem a rouge werewolf. We are then taken into this world of Claire and her mother Marie, the story is well written and fun to get into, but I called the ending within the first couple chapters.

This was really a pretty good take on werewolves. Very different :) not sure I was in love with Claire at first but she stepped up. Definitely will read the next one.

This paranormal novel follows a young girl, Claire, as her life becomes more complicated than ever before. I’m a big fan of shifter books, especially werewolves, so when I found this novel I couldn’t read it fast enough.
On her sixteenth birthday, Claire discovers she a werewolf. Naturally, she struggles with this knowledge, finding out she’s not at all who she thought she was. I thought the author did this very well, we knew how Claire was feeling but the description of her emotional state didn’t slow down the plot. Locals have been attacked by a wolf and the pack is concerned it will draw unwanted attention towards them. There are a few sections we see from the unknown wolf’s perspective. They’re cruel and bloodthirsty, revelling in the bloodshed and death. It’s a great mystery trying to guess who the murderous werewolf is, whether they’re a pack member or someone else entirely. When it was revealed I was quite surprised.
It’s also interesting to note that all the werewolves are female. This changes the pack dynamic than your regular werewolves pack, for example instead of an alpha male they have a female. Not only that but the werewolves are also able to do some basic magic like starting fires which I thought was pretty unique.
Not only does she have to deal with her new life but she also has a budding romance with her crush, Matthew. He’s such a sweet guy and I just couldn’t stand them not being together! They’re so cute together. But the romance didn’t overwhelm the novel like plenty of young adult books. To make matters worse Matthew’s father is leading a local werewolf hunt. He wants to study them which puts the local pack on edge, trapping Claire squarely in the middle. Like any normal love-struck girl, her feelings for Matthew override any rational thought. She should stay away from him but her heart won’t let her. Everyone enjoys a good forbidden love story.
It was a fun read and I give it 4/5

Impossible for me to review... I didn't enjoy this.

Oh my, it has been SO long since I last read a werewolf story - and I am not counting the Twilight Saga because it includes other paranormal characters. In fact, I have not read all that many werewolf stories but I hope that will change as more interesting books are written. The last werewolf story that I really enjoyed was Blood and Chocolate (I also enjoyed the movie, even though it was completely different). Note: I REALLY wish there had been a sequel to that. I want me some more B & C. In that book, werewolves were almost completely hidden from human beings. They were only really hunted when mysterious murders occurred and maybe glimpses of them were seen.

Not so in Claire de Lune. Werewolves are common knowledge. Some rogue wolves kill humans and place a bad name on all werewolves so that humans both fear and loathe them. There are even local, federal, and international government agencies bent on hunting and studying werewolves, but they always unwittingly fuel the werewolf stereotype by only capturing dangerous-looking, hairy men and testing werewolf “cures” on them.

I did like that the existence of werewolves was common knowledge in this book like the existence of all paranormal beings was common knowledge in Moonshine. The story was compelling, and having read Blood and Chocolate before, I saw some parallels between the two main characters and the two stories, but each took a different turn and the similarities did not cause me any disdain.

As I came to the end of the book, I had the same thought as I did with Blood and Chocolate: I wish there was a sequel. Well, THIS time my wish will come true!

I did a little digging and found out from author Christine Johnson’s website that there WILL be a sequel. I am SO EXCITED! I found out by locating Johnson’s website from Goodreads and checking out her site blog. I am not sure yet what the title of the sequel is because apparently she held a contest for a fan to name it. She announced the winner on July 19 (the day I am actually writing this). I also am now following her blog through Google Reader and following her on Twitter and Facebook. Check her out!

3.5 Stars

Here's what I liked about it:
-I thought the concept that only women carried the werewolf gene was cool.
-Also enjoyed the whole transformation process
-Totally did not see the twist, I was looking the other way

What I didn't like:
-The emotional turmoil that Claire seems to be in ALL THE TIME and how dramatic EVERYTHING is! Which is why it got 3.5 stars instead of 4.

Even though the book wasn't totally awful, I doubt that I would continue the series.

Really awesome book! I loved it! Want more now.

Christine Johnson’s debut novel, Claire de Lune has got it all: great characters, romance, action, great writing, and a twisting plot. It’s a very character-driven story, but contains enough action to keep readers interested and the pacing even. At times I thought the story moved a little slow, but I was never bored while reading it. The slowness was due to the story and its characters being set up, but once the basics were established, it moved faster.

The characters are extremely likeable, especially Claire and Matthew. Their relationship is so honest and believable, which is something I say a lot, but they are definitely high on my list of favorite fictional characters. I also really like the fact that Claire is the paranormal one in the relationship. Claire’s best friend, Emily, is sent away temporarily, but Johnson continued to include her in the story instead of using her absence as a convenient excuse to remove her entirely from the plot to make the story easier to tell.

Overall, Claire de Lune is a fantastic read and I can honestly say it deserves all the rave reviews it’s been receiving. Christine Johnson has written a novel that will captivate readers with its characters, romance, and writing.
