If you ever think you have it bad then think to yourself, it could be worse, but then wonder, how could it be worse? Read this book. The amount of hardship the sailors aboard the Enduramce went through trying to survive sailing through the arctic circle is incredible. This paints a black and white picture of the things they had to do to survive without glorifying it condemning it, not for the faint of heart. And just when you think relief is in sight (it sometimes literally is) the sailors suffered numerous setbacks before achieving their goals. It takes a little while to get going but once I was hooked I knew I was in until the end. I highly recommend it if the synopsis intrigues you even in the slightest, trigger warnings for body trauma and animal cruelty? Animal cruelty doesn't seem to be the right word but it doesn't end well for any of the animals in this book.

Trigger warnings for lots and lots of animal death and general suffering.
This is a very intense account for Shackleton’s voyage. It started rather slow but I found myself riveted soon after. It’s a very human story that I thoroughly enjoyed. Again, there is a lot of animal death and some cruelty involved so only go into this if you can deal with that.

This book was everything a good book aught to be; exciting, emotional, and fraught with peril. It was difficult to read what became the daily struggles of the men aboard the Endurance, yet inspiring to see the human spirit press on.
