Finally, some closure! We Set The Dark On Fire ended in the middle of a catastrophe. The sequel does a great job of wrapping up loose ends and bringing us on another unexpected journey.
This book is written from Carmen's perspective. I wasn't sure how I would feel about that at first, because I loved Dani's perspective, but hearing Carmen's view of the whole situation reveals her innermost thoughts and feelings - bringing balance.
I am a huge fan!

This book comes so close to being excellent but the plot holes and the unexamined character flaws just got ramped up from book 1.
Carmen blaming the relationship with Dani for Sota’s death without ever once looking inward at her personal traits that led to her god awful decision making and his death was so disappointing.
It felt like there was a lot of plot that just perfectly absolved bad choices or did a bad job of explaining things that made no sense (Dani revealing Carmen saved her just in time even though Mateo appeared besotted with her, El Buitre’s explanation for his betrayal, Alex not holding Carmen accountable for Sota’s death…

The sequel to We Set the Dark on Fire switches POV to Carmen, the resistance fighter who captured Dani’s heart in the first book. While I had grown to love seeing things from Dani’s POV, and it wasn’t a smooth shift into Carmen, it was great to get her perspective on things too. Right from the first page Carmen is thrown into a multitude of difficult decisions, and I can see why this book was better told from her POV. You get to see a lot more of how the resistance works, and what it’s like to have been one of their operatives since childhood. The story wraps up in a very satisfying way in the end, though it's hard to escape thinking that it might have been a little too easy. Like with the first book however, I couldn't stop turning the pages on this one. Another ⭐⭐⭐⭐ rating from me
