I love this book series so much. Carmen's constant need to protect and do what's right, and maybe not smart, is really relatable. her and Dani's relationship flourishing and exploding with similes akin to a fire is perfect.

Ultimately I think I just didn't like Carmen's perspective. Far too much of the start of this book were the same worries about Dani over and over again which made it very hard to get into.

Similar to the first book, I found this slow where it felt like it should be fast and fast where it should have slowed down. The characters felt flat and the world was interesting but deserved more explanation. It’s still decently entertaining and does wrap up the story well.

A solid sequel and it is a delight to read a duology. I feel like some of Carmen's enemies lacked the depth needed to make them compelling. And some of the emotional waffling felt forced to create *drama*. Still, it was very gay and had a relatively satisfying ending to the tension created in the first book.
