I am making six figures, so I'm not the target audience. Also, it was published in 2004, so it feels dated and old. All the stats are at least 20 years old and you get some residual 90s sexism and "women are this" and "men think like that." Also awkward to throw quotes from civil rights leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandala into a book about bring women up into the upper middle class. Just felt off.

But I do need to invest more. I definitely invest more than my husband does and I get better than inflation returns, but it's always something I could do better at.

And I have lost money by not pushing myself more- I know of a guy who has the exact same tech education as me and same internship and first job. We both got our second tech jobs a couple of months apart and his minimum requirement salary in his job search was $40k more than I was hoping for. And that was 4 years ago. With raises and such, I probably have lost out on $200k that he has.

But also, I'm not a "money for money's sake" which seems to be the push of this book. Having money is pretty useless if there's no goal. People who sit on wealth with no end goal for it (charity, retirement, education, philanthropy) are terrible people, or at best mediocre people who don't know what they want out of life.

Would be a good book for someone just starting out with deciding to get into a career after being a parent since it addresses gender roles and how that shapes how we view money, but other than that, there are newer books that are better.

Challenged me to suck less with my money. It's a bit too focused on exceptional women without taking cultural, economic, and other environmental factors into account... which definitely affect how much power you have in a situation and how much money you can make.

The title caught my attention but the content kept me reading. Great tips to guide yourself through life, and not just your career. Very empowering read. Also challenged me to think about my habits and how I may be inhibiting myself unconsciously. Recommend for any woman seeking the comfort of knowing you aren't alone in the way you feel.

Having read Stanny's OVERCOMING UNDEREARNING a couple of times, I found SECRETS OF SIX FIGURE WOMEN well-intentioned but ultimately disappointing. Perhaps it's because there was no new information here. And having been published in 2004, the book felt outdated. It also focuses a great deal on the corporate world, while I craved more focus on entrepreneurship.

In the past couple of years, I've worked hard to change my money mindset and relationship with my earning potential. I've delved deep into all the "secrets" Stanny explores here, and as a result the information within this book felt basic and superficial. I can see how a woman who's spent her entire career in the corporate world and who isn't familiar with these concepts would have an eye-opening experience if this book lands in her hands at just the right time. However, anyone looking for more advanced strategies and practical approaches to earning more should go straight to OVERCOMING UNDEREARNING.

Some really really great information in here that is inspiring and useful without being overwhelming.

Would recommend, especially for those in corporate positions.

Awesome!

I recommend this book to anyone who feels like they are “stuck” and need a little motivation. You won’t be disappointed.
