This book was hard for me to get into, and I really think the only thing that kept me going was thinking I was already more than halfway through. I struggle with fragmented thoughts used in place of descriptions, which this book used with a heavy-hand. I need things like who-said-what to be clear otherwise I spend the next two paragraphs trying to figure it out and then I have to backtrack, only to question if it even really matters.
Once the tides of the book changed, I was hooked. I knew there was nothing good in Jo's immediate future once she decides that the past is worth revisiting.  Surprisingly, there is enough hope in the last 2 pages of the book to combat the immense shadows of reality, which will likely lead to a reread in the future.

I don’t know tf is going on here. Everything is happening at the same time but nothing is really happening.

There's a worthwhile message in this book but the author has hidden it away under flowery language and trying to drag out the story. Instead of creating suspense, she created a sense of ennui, at least for me. Like why bother. I know what she wants to say but she can't seem to get there

The prose of this book was so magical and dreamlike and beautiful.
