This was a weird book. I do not know what I was expecting, but whatever it was didn't really match the cover and didn't really make any sense to me. Some people really love this, but for me, I want more than just characters cheating on each other and playing all kinds of games with their spouses. I much prefer more genuine relationships and some kind of plot. Some parts of the book were mildly entertaining to me so I opted for 2.5 stars, rounding up to 3.

It was great and then it wasn't

3.5 stars

I enjoyed the writing style of Jonas and especially appreciated the societal observations about art & morality. This book was not anything like I thought it would but I enjoyed it for what it was. I can’t decide if the cover is misleading or an enjoyable irony.

At any rate, it’s worth the read.

This wasn’t for me. I think the author has some real talent and there were a few lines in this book that just astounded me. Despite that I am more of a solid plot line instead of an in depth character study kinda gal, and this book was sloooooow moving.

It felt longer than it needed to be at times but not bad

well this was a wild ride!

This can best be summed up as a fuck around and find out book, in the best kind of way. It feels like a combination of a reversal of Lolita (older woman, younger man), a satire of academia and its politics, a woman being honest about her desire (and not being punished for it, even if she does end up dragging and lying to the other party), and except for a few people, no one comes out the other end better for it. It’s a car crash, and sometimes, you just want to watch the mess. Picked this up from the library, definitely worth your time.

nope. nope. absolutely not

to be honest, even after only just finishing this book I could not tell you what this book is about. It was advertised as a love story/ a story of lust involving an older married couple with an open marriage. it wasn’t anywhere near as fun as that. instead, we got some low-key assault vibes from both husband and wife, some very weird views on feminism and some brushing over deep mental health stuff.
yay. or whatever the opposite of yay is.
