Let’s just start with how incredible the cover of this book is. The writing is incredible and the obsessed woman trope is a personal favorite. I thought the perspective Jonas presents on the me too movement was interesting and at times refreshing. I would have liked to have seen some growth, development, or nuance to her perspective on her husbands infidelity. My one main complaint which keeps me giving this five stars is the ending!!! Ugh I wish she had put more time and effort into the ending. It’s as if she got burnt out and gave up at the end. I do, however, think it’s a remarkable rebut novel and look forward to what Jonas writes in the future.

Creepy and full of unpleasant characters without redeemable features. Read it quickly in one sitting. Just a very odd book

Books like these just reaffirm why I read so many of these unhinged women books.

You know how books have a target audience? I AM the embodiment of the target audience for this. I adore books about obsession and unhinged women with pretty writing. Especially the fact that the narrator in this subverts so many of the expectations that a woman is supposed to fit into.

The writing is just absolutely amazing (I think reading so many of these unhinged women books is making me narrate my life with weird language). It’s perfectly descriptive and atmospheric and raw, and dives into the narrators mind so perfectly.

I also love the case that’s a backdrop of this book. The narrator’s perspective on the case is quite interesting. And I also enjoyed reading about how unhinged the narrator is.

However, I feel like that ending was just like... too extreme and unrealistic for it to work for me? And the relationship (?) between Vladimir and the narrator just wasn’t there for the obsession aspect to really work for me.

I have very mixed feelings, especially because it also wasn't too memorable.

LOVED this. Did not want to put it down. I absolutely loved our MC's voice, her snarkiness, her anger, her insight and at times lack of insight. I thought the author did an incredible job inventing this person and her interior life. Don't let the cover trick you. If you like complex characters that drive the story (vs a fast moving plot) that reflects on aging, power and gender dynamics, family dynamics, consider picking this up.

This book was not for me. I hated every minute of it. And like what the hell was the ending.

i didn’t think i was gonna feel any sort of way about this book, but it pleasantly surprised me. it was much more original than any book containing themes of adultery that i’ve read before

Engrossing, uncomfortable, excellently written. Narrator's wry observational voice became my own way of seeing for the duration of the read, for better or worse. Loved it.
