When I first realized it was going to follow two couples instead of one I thought that would be too much to keep up with but then I found that I quite enjoyed it.
I loved the book though, always love Minerva’s books!

Things I liked:
-The main relationship in the book. I felt that the main couple had decent chemistry and I saw what they liked in each other.
-With the exception of the villain, the main and side characters were generally likeable people.
-While behavior could occasionally be exaggerated, most of the decisions the characters made didn't feel over the top. Their choices mostly felt understandable or relatable.
-The writing itself was very accessible.
Things I didn't like:
-The side relationship between the married couple. They didn't seem to have much chemistry and the conflict seemed very forced.
-The main female love interest was very cruel at certain points which made her hard to like at times.
-The main conflicts were resolved quite easily.
-Sexual assault as a plot point several times. Never graphic, but it was unanticipated.
I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes current historical romance. The writing was very modern in a positive way.

This at its heart is a redemption story for a former mean girl. Celia shows tremendous amounts of character growth and she has become a better person in the present compared to who she was in the past. There is also commentary in the book about men in positions of power abusing their power as well as sexual assault and abuse. There is vast commentary on sexism and how women are treated within a patriarchy. Obviously this is a romance, so there is a happily ever after ending where the main heroines find men who treat them as equals and love them as they are. However, the message of how damaging the patriarchy is, particularly to women, is not lost because of this. I appreciated getting to know these identical twins and how despite being so different they have a loving brotherly relationship. I can't wait to read other books by this author.
