The first time I heard about this book from my friend, I immediately thought, wouldn’t reading this book turn me into complacency? Isn’t it too early to pat ourselves on the back when there’s SO much to be done, especially more recently with our political climate, shootings, plane crashes, etc.

Hans argues, with personal anecdotes, data, and his humble voice, that by cultivating a mindset of really looking at what the facts are and reflecting on the progress we’ve made, we can be motivated to continue our path of improvement and think more logically about what the best next steps should be, unmoved by fear tactics, exaggeration, and many other traps our brains are prone to fall into.

I'm sure the intentions behind the book were good, but there is more than one place where it comes off as condescending, even though most of what it presents is hardly all that revolutionary. Maybe I'm just not part of the intended audience, but I still believe that there are ways to explain things simply without treating the readers like children who need every bit of information spoon-fed to them. More crucially, the book fails to do so without omitting details that might distort the very facts being presented.

This is one of the most educational books I've ever read!

Sehr interessant.

I liked this book - I learned a lot of new things and also now feel hopeful for the direction humanity is headed in. I appreciated the authors’ humility and insight into their own mistakes as something we can all learn from. Each chapter was great and ended with a concise conclusion and summary to take away. I believe this book is a great example of how to explain critical thinking when it comes to consuming facts and what to do with them. I appreciated this book and am glad I picked it up.
