Was so reminiscent of ACOTAR I felt my time would just be better spent rereading an actually good series instead of one that had me rolling my eyes or rereading out of confusion. Like other reviewers have mentioned the time/tech period is totally confusing (horse riding and swords, but also bombs?), some scenes are complete ripoffs (male character nightmares, one bed at the inn, flying together constantly, found family, etc), and most characters are 2D versions of ACOTAR characters. A lot of scenes shifted suddenly in a confusing way that made me reread sections, and some phrases were overused (“bursting into laughter” at not very funny things and every bite of food came with a moan or “explosion” of flavor). Things just felt disjointed and underdeveloped.

Whilst I somewhat like the story… it lacked a level of sophistication

This author just took every lead male and female sarah j Maas character, along with their storylines, and smashed them into two bodies. They had essentially no flaws, just all powerful with no nuance or venerability. I finished it because I can forgive horrible writing for entertainment value(the I can’t believe it’s this bad kind) but I can’t forgive the cringey, horribly written, almost physically painful sex scenes.
