This reminds me so much of Elena Ferrante (possibly better written?) but I was less entertained because I more or less knew the plot/vibes. I think if I read this 3 years ago it would have blown my mind.

It's hard to make a compelling story out of a character who is bored, aimless, and passive. While that is kind of the entire point of Book of Goose, I thought Yiyun Li was only moderately successful at it. The melancholy and passivity kind of seeps through to the reader. In the book, Agnes is constantly wondering, "what's the point?", and I found myself asking that same question throughout.

However, I did find The Book of Goose to be insightful and the author brought things together nicely in the end. There seems to be a lot of merit to The Book of Goose, but ot just wasn't really for me.
