Lovely YA series with a very original concept and wonderful characters. The last book ended up having too much heavy lifting to do. The culmination of the Percy Jackson series was better crafted overall whereas, for this one, the final 'big boss' fights were underwhelming after 5 books building up to them. Lovely series overall, but the four previous books were a lot better than the last one which was a shame.

I loved the characters, but felt the pacing toward the end was so fast I kept losing track of who was where. [spoilers] also I didn't WANT hazel or frank to die, i love them both a lot, but after 5 books of nonstop  reminders they're both going to maybe die,  I was weirdly let down to realize that plot thread would be solved later after, probably another long series. I just felt kind of cheated to read several very long books to leave off on what felt to me like a "to be continued..." with those characters and several others
