This book is great for elementary readers, connecting earth science concepts to scenarios that a young student may encounter in their daily life. I was impressed with some of the concepts covered; they're things I didn't get to until my college-level geology courses.

However, there are pages that seem like they were copy-pasted from a textbook. (NB: This isn't an accusation of plagiarism, just a critique of tone & style.) I could see this being useful as a stepping stone to help reluctant readers transition to larger text passages, but it also seems like a cop out in a graphic novella. Students already have textbooks available...if you're going to explore a nontraditional book format to teach science, why revert to the traditional format halfway through?

As far as the story goes, I wonder if George/Geo is a little too goody-goody. In my experience as an educator, kids roll their eyes and shut down a bit at characters that are too far on the Gallant side of the Goofus & Gallant spectrum. Of course, since the story is secondary to the science lessons and needs to be widely accessible to all students, I'm not sure how to do it differently.
