The bookstore recommendation blurb of this being "a delightful mixture of Dexter and Killing Eve" (both of which I've never actually watched) is what drew me in. The wit and humor, along with a compelling story and complex serial killer narrator who you can't help but root for, are what kept me hooked as I devoured this over 2-3 days.

Not only is it a fun serial killer story (fun is probably not the right word here 😅) , but the author masterfully explores themes of grief, trauma, dementia, and elder care/abuse through a cast of kooky characters and Claire's hilarious narration and observations of "ordinary people"

...deciding I quite like Ben. Anyone who describes murder and suicide as a funny turn gets my vote.

Pumpkin Head Deb who literally never sits is sitting in an armchair and smiling at me

Sniffing out the compliment, Pumpkin Head Deb who literally never sits down is at his side in an instant, sitting down on a dining room chair.

There's no cure for dementia and when the only destination is death, would you choose a long, meandering path through indignity and confusion or a more direct one? I know Dad would have preferred the direct route. I think Frank would too. I think anyone in their right mind would.

Main character is too much.

I never thought that I would support a serial killer in a book, but this book had me wanting everything to work out for Claire, despite everything that she did.
I loved Joanna Wallace’s writing and her storytelling made this book so hard to put down, it was one of those books that you continue to try and read despite needing to sleep and falling asleep multiple times but still wanting to get to the end to find out what is going to happen. I did exactly that with this book, and I really didn’t want it to end at all. The twists and turns throughout the book were unexpected and I thoroughly enjoyed each new one.
I look forward to Joanna Wallace’s next book!
