I should’ve known I was gonna think this poem collection was cringey when I saw the chainsmokers review on the back. There were some poems I thought were cute…. But the majority were cliche.

There were a few cute quotes but it’s mainly just a bunch of poorly written cliches

This was an unimpressive collection of poetry. There are a few lines, here and there, that I enjoyed, but as a whole this felt like the work of an unpolished writer first exploring poetry. The themes didn't vary much, and most of the poems felt very samey.

Honest truth is that there may be some bias on the fact that Rupi Kaur is my goddesss and I may have a tendency to compare all else to her.

At some point I do believe that I will need to read these poems as Courtney intended - to read them when the emotions that inspire them are present, which might make them more enjoyable. Some of the poems found within Pillow Thoughts are beautiful and unique, that truly showcase her voice. Yet simultaneously there also lie a large quantity of poems that blend into the background. With no merit of their own - just 'not right'.

I just can't handle the whole rhyming poetry thing. Just not it for me unfortunately. I prefer the more of the top of your head, random thoughts thing. A future re-read could potentially change this rating, but for now if you are looking for a quick read then I suggest this to do the trick.

Some relatable stuff for sure , with some fluff. some poems definitely hit me in the feels and brought back a lot of emotions and memories I locked away. Guess that serves the purpose of the book, right?
