This is Friend Zone: The Novel & it's problematic for so many reasons (a celebrated teacher/student relationship and a whole lot of Nice Guy syndrome), and yet I felt things anyway. I can't tell you why. It's treacly and corny and yet I liked how she wrote a soft-hearted guy in contrast to masculine meatheads and I liked the redemption arc of the abusive father and I liked the relationship between the brothers. I've been reading Elizabeth Berg for 20+ years and her later books have lost the grit of the earlier ones, but something about her writing, even when too surface, can move me. 🤷♀️
Graphic: Grief, Adult/minor relationship, and Child abuse
Moderate: Death, Emotional abuse, Toxic friendship, and Pregnancy
Minor: Sexual assault and Rape
