I love some flowery prose just as much as the next gal, but it really took me out of the story. The author’s voice was so disconnected from the character’s. This is a man who played high school football, skipped college, and went straight into the music industry. He admits to not knowing the word pensive. Then, he’s describing the moon as “refulgent, bathing them in effervescent light” in his internal monologue? It would be laughable if it wasn’t so frustrating. I genuinely think this author would be better suited to litfic or period romances. Especially if he continues to be unwilling to match the tone of his characters in his writing.

I wasn’t in the mood for it quite yet, and I had other books to read that i was more interested in.

A beautiful and well written novel! The characters felt so real and I loved the switching of time period. It was such a wonderful book to read. I usually read books I like really quickly but I slowed down with this one because I loved living in this world for a bit longer.

I really enjoyed this but I don’t think I’d really call it a romance, even though it fits the parameters of the genre. The title is accurate about what happens: it is Colton Gentry’s third act. Reinventing yourself at 39 is no small feat and happens more than you’d think, so i can see this being relatable to a lot of readers in that way. His particular achievements are in the suspension of disbelief category, but that’s why it’s called fiction. I thought the romance was the weakest part of the plot.

this was…. fine. The banter wasn’t great, the millennial jokes written throughout made me cringe so hard and too often (and I’m a millennial so I feel like it’s okay to say that).
would watch this movie but the book was just not the hit I wanted it to be.
