2.5 because while i am DELIGHTED at a trans woman romcom with a shadow monster who loves her unconditionally…. the rest of this kinda gave me the ick :( i think office romances might not be my thing personally because i was too aghast to enjoy the spice. trying to expand my comfort zone but f-cking at work is still a nightmare to me personally.

also, i understand that this story is about forgiveness and healing and i love that. but as a trans person myself, i could NOT do what wyn does at the end of this book.

also. did the romance all happen over the course of like a week? and then they fell in love? AND HE MET HER CHILD??? wyn is a damn good mother and  i know instalove/mates is a trope in the genre but i really think the combo of having bash meet jake so early on AND the workplace sex AND welcoming transphobes into your safe found family…. i fear this was not for me.

wyn archer deserves the whole world and she better be getting it, bash!! OR ELSE.

2.5🌶

This was a really good book. Our girl Wyn is the weight of the world on her shoulders, and I am so glad she has someone like Bash to release that weight for her.

Wyn guard is up (rightfully so), and to see it come down and accept love was great. The middle seemed a little slow for me, and I felt like I was on more of a ride with the first 2 books than this one.

The spicy scenes were nice and loved Bash's love for her body.

Jake is the MVP of this book, and he was such an amazing character to read.

A workplace monster romance, with single mom, trans love, and shadow appendages…immediately yes!

I loved this story so much our Boggart Bash is not the most suave when it comes to flirting and so Wyn just thinks he’s constantly harping on her. It makes for the best enemies to lovers vibes.

Bash has lived a life outcasted from his family because he doesn’t act like a Boggart should. All the poor man wants is someone to help fill that chasm of loneliness within him and he just knows Wyn is that person

I wasn't a fan of the ending. Though I greatly enjoyed the build-up. Even with the monster magic, I find the ending so improbable as to be impossible. I'd easily rate the book a whole star higher with a more realistic ending.

Maybe I just found the story's villains so villainous that I could not tolerate them being redeemable. Even in a fantasy novel, I don't want these villains to have good things.
