Bad. I couldn't get further than 10% in because it was so poorly written. I've read other very good variations by this author, but the behaviour of the characters was so out of place (overly familiar and rather dumb). Really glad I didn't waste my money (yay Kindle Unlimited).

The plot is unclear, the story is too long and illogical, the characters have nothing in common with the real P&P. And on top of all the language is not far from primitive.

Feb 26th 2020-man, I read this almost exactly two years after I read it the first time! I love this book so much ❤️ I’m so glad I rediscovered it. It’s very sweet and the romance between Elizabeth and Darcy is all one could ever want. I love Darcy’s proposal.

Bluebells in the mourning è una variation del famoso romanzo di Jane Austen, Orgoglio e pregiudizio.
Il mourning del titolo, ovvero il lutto, è dovuto alla morte della piccola Lydia, avvenuta mentre la sorella maggiore Elizabeth si trova ad Hunsford. Proprio per tale motivo, la prima, disastrosa dichiarazione di Darcy non ha luogo. L'uomo, infatti, trova Lizzy affranta in casa Collins a causa dell'inaspettata quanto dolorosa notizia, e desiste dal suo proposito, offrendosi invece di ospitare la ragazza e Maria Lucas nella sua casa di Londra, in attesa di poterle condurre nell'Hertfordshire.
Benché la permanenza di Elizabeth a Darcy House sia molto breve, è comunque utile affinché in Darcy si compia quel mutamento che nel romanzo originario è dovuto invece al rifiuto della sua proposta di matrimonio, e affinché Lizzy cominci a chiedersi se le sue opinioni sull'uomo siano davvero fondate, o frutto del pregiudizio e delle probabili menzogne di Wickham.
Elizabeth stringe immediatamente amicizia con Georgiana, che si adopra in tutti i modi perché il fratello e la donna di cui pare innamorato passino del tempo insieme. E' così che invita Elizabeth e i Gardiner a Pemberley senza chiedere il permesso a Darcy.
I bluebells del titolo si riferiscono alle campanule selvatiche che crescono intorno al laghetto della proprietà del Derbyshire, in cui i due protagonisti condividono dei preziosissimi momenti.
Il loro rapporto, infatti, sembra procedere spedito verso il lieto fine, ma naturalmente non mancherà la suspance, e problemi dovuti a Wickham e alla mancanza di comunicazione tra i due.
Bluebells in the mourning è un ottimo romanzo che propone un percorso alternativo alla storia di Darcy e Lizzy. I due personaggi sono molto ben caratterizzati e in linea con quelli austeniani, soprattutto Elizabeth, che ho trovato davvero adorabile e vivace, mentre spesso in altre variation non viene ben descritta e può risultare troppo perfetta o capricciosa.
Amabile anche il personaggio di Georgiana, finalmente una ragazzina della sua età che agisce come tale ed è davvero molto carina.
Le scene tra Darcy e Lizzy, che sono parecchie, sono piuttosto dolci o emozionanti, ma anche divertenti e simpatiche. Mi sono piaciute molto le loro interazioni a Londra, e naturalmente durante la tanto sospirata proposta. In realtà sarebbero numerose le scene da ricordare, come quella in cui fa la sua rapida comparsa Caroline, o quelle in cui sono protagonisti dei... fazzoletti .
Purtroppo pochissimo o nessuno spazio per alcuni personaggi, come Lady Catherine, Anne, Charlotte e Mr Collins. La ricerca di Wickham da parte di Darcy e Fitzwilliam - spesso vera spina nel fianco - non è stata noiosa, ma ben scritta e della giusta ampiezza.
Da segnalare un percorso originale e piacevole per i coniugi Bennet, mentre - non avrei mai pensato di dirlo - mi è mancata la piccola Lydia.

Another solid Pride & Prejudice variation, in which instead of proposing at Kent, Mr. Darcy finds Elizabeth after she's received the news that one of her sisters has died.
Some of the obstacles in their romance weren't super convincing, but it was still what I was looking for: some charming fluff that required very little from me.

This Pride and Prejudice variation picks up when Elizabeth receives the letter from Jane about Lydia, only instead of containing news that her youngest sister has run off with Wickham, the note informs Lizzy that Lydia has had an accidental fall while out on a walk with Wickham and died as a result of her injuries. So instead of proposing to her and being rejected, Mr. Darcy is there to help Elizabeth as she grieves and to escort her and Maria Lucas home. And then it turns out there may be foul play involved with Lydia's death -- a development that may waylay the growing romance between Elizabeth and Darcy.
Pretty enjoyable, if you enjoy Jane Austen fanfiction or prim-and-proper Regency romance novels. I'm not sure it really added all that much to the story as it already exists, except that it gave more development to the character of Darcy's cousin Captain Fitzwilliam and his sister Georgiana, and gave an unlikely happy ending to Mr. and Mrs. Bennet, who were brought together as husband and wife after the tragic loss of Lydia.

Mr. Darcy walks to Hunsford parsonage to propose to Elizabeth Bennet just as she has finished reading a letter from Jane informing her of the death of Lydia.
He transports her with Maria Lucas to his Town House and then to Longbourn.
Can his compassion and behaviour convince Elizabeth of his worth. Can Darcy discover the cause of Lydia's death and what happens when Georgiana decides to help bring Elizabeth and Darcy together.
