I just loved this book. So much. The writing was so good and addicting. The beginning sets the dark and mysterious mood and scenery so perfectly. I loved the complexity of the characters, I feel like none of them were dull, there was always more to them in some way.
Don't have much more to say, this was great.
The only thing that was a bit off for me was the dragon stuff. Like I just didn't get why that was necessary. When Roscille realized Lisander is no normal human being, I was so excited to find out what is going on. But this was a letdown and just a bit weird.

I was expecting a woman centered retelling off Macbeth, not a sort of violence against women that was only averted by a man saving her. At least she killed Macbeth at the end. It was a good idea poorly executed that frankly took out all of the agency of the original character. Also a lot of the lines in the book were trite truisms that felt too modern to make any sense in this medieval world. I only finished because it sounded like such a good idea but it was really poorly executed

A great book I’ll be thinking about for a long time! For fans of Shakespeare who love lady M, this book gives a new understanding to her complex and powerful character. However, it varies so much from the play that one need not be a Shakespearean scholar to find it captivating. The gothic setting, the intertwining of magic and war, the theme of defining power in new terms are strikingly done. The writing is gorgeous.

It’s not the Lady Macbeth that I know and love, but this new version is aiiight. If you forget about the OG Macbeth, this is a story about a young woman finding her place among some powerful men who suck.

Not a bad retelling, and an interesting take.  There were some places that it dragged and some places I could have wished for better, but it was fine.

Gonna be honest, I only listened to this because it had no wait on libby. Def would not have had the patience to read it if i had a hard copy. The audiobook was fun because of all the scottish accents lol. This took a lot of creative liberties with the OG Macbeth so I can see why some people would dislike it for that reason. Honestly for someone who is supposed to be smart she does a lot of dumb shit.
